Welcome to the Invasion Biology Thesis Starter Tool (INBIO TST)!
If you are new to the field of invasion biology, and in the process of developing your own research hypothesis, for example starting to plan your own research for a PhD project, you probably face a series of problems:
- You are not sure which major hypotheses are already discussed frequently in the field
- Or, if you have heard of some hypotheses (e.g. the ‘enemy release hypothesis’), you are not exactly sure what they are about
- You may also not be quite sure about the meaning of concepts and terms frequently used in scientific publications, including the species that are in the focus of invasion biological studies
- Also, you may be unsure what exactly a research hypothesis looks like (e.g. which structure and components it usually has)
The INBIO TST can help you here. You can paste a piece of text, e.g. an exposé you wrote yourself, or an abstract of a scientific paper you want to receive help in understanding (step 1), and the tool will analyse this text (step 2). You can receive information on which major hypotheses are addressed in this piece of text and which species are mentioned. INBIO TST will also provide information on terms and concepts specific for the field. Finally, you can get further information on content and basic components of the major hypotheses identified in the text (step 3).
This tool is under development. Our vision is that in a later version, you will get guidance in refining or formulating your own research hypothesis.
